Kathmandu, June 8: The two goals from newly appointed Kaski Raj Karki helped Tirbhuvan Army Club to thrash Nepal Police Club 3-0 and to secure their berth at semifinal on Saturday at Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu.
With victory, Army men defeated Police men for the third time in a row within six month. Army set historical win after 12 years in Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament in Pokhara while they registered second win in the Super League of the Martyr’s Memorial League last season.
Karki put physically and technically strong side Army ahead in the 29th minutes in their first post attempt as he directed the superb cross off Tank Basnet into the post.
Free header from Karki doubled the tally for Army in the 50th minutes. The free kick off skipper Mahendra Khawas from 20-yard distance got well connected to Karki.
Army man Naresh Meche made score line 3-0 for home in the 63rd minutes from close range in a rebound after his shot to Tek Bahadur Budhathoki’s cross hit the pole.
Unlucky Police skipper Jumanu Rai failed to put Police ahead in the 7th minute on one-versus-one with Army shot-stopper Ful Bahadur Lama.
In 33rd minute, Army goalie Lama made a punching save to a powerful strike off skipper Rai from the edge. Custodian Lama again denied the power shot of Rai in the 87th minutes with brilliant save.
Army dominated the pitch with their technical and physical games and created more than dozen of post attempts against their famous rival Police.
After suffering big defeated from the hand of Army, Police Coach Birat Krishna Shrestha was unhappy with his team’s poor performance in the vital match.
“We lose today’s match due to the lots of unnecessary mistake from my players. They also totally failed to mark key players of Army.”
“Lots of unnecessary duty turned our rhythm during the match and we faced three avoidable goals,” he added.
Army coach Yogambar Suwal was joy to brilliant performance of his junior guys in our improvement game against title favorite Police in the last eight.
“I am always focusing my boys for their condition after they fit in the condition I am applying for the technical games during the training period.” Coach Suwal said.
Now, we made our bench also strong and we will still processing to improving our game hope we will comeback in the national tournament as a best side. He added.
